Pantai Siung Wediombo
Pantai Siung-Wediombo tidak hanya indah, tetapi juga menarik dari aspek geomorfologi. Bentang alamnya dipengaruhi oleh sesar dan kekar. Batuan gunungapi tua di bagian timur pantai Siung yang tersesarkan diterobos oleh retas andesit-basal. Singkapnya menerus ke timur hingga Pantai Wediombo. Pantai Siung bagian barat disusun oleh batuan yang berbeda, yaitu batu gamping. Batu gamping Formasi Wonosari terbongkahkan oleh kekar, membentuk tonjolan seperti Siung (atau gigi taring). Kenampakan ini mendasari nama pantai, yang dibuat oleh nenek moyang penduduk setempat. Sentuhan stratigrafi tak selaras antara batuan gunung api (tuf) dengan batugamping dapat diamati dengan baik. Kegiatan abrasi menghasilkan tafoni berukuran besar dalam bentuk sea-stacks, yang bangunnya seperti jamur. Ketika laut surut, tersingkap endapan-gisik yang permukaannya ditumbuhi oleh rumput laut.
Siung-Wediombo Beach is not only beautiful, but also interesting from a geomorphological aspect. The landscape is affected by faults and joints. Old volcanic rock on the east coast of Siung which was faulted was intruded by andesite-basalt faulting. The exposure continues eastward to Wediombo Beach. The western part of Siung Beach is composed of different rocks, namely limestone. The limestone of the Wonosari Formation is fractured by joints, forming protrusions like cloves (or canines). This appearance underlies the name of the beach, which was made by the ancestors of the local population. The unconformity of stratigraphic touch between volcanic rock (tuff) and limestone can be well observed. The abrasion activity produces large tafoni in the form of sea-stacks, which are shaped like mushrooms. When the sea recedes, the surface of the sea grass is exposed to the sediments.
Lereng terjal batu gamping di Siung Barat digunakan untuk kegiatan panjat tebing. Atlet panjat tebing perempuan yang menjuarai pertandingan di tingkat ASEAN berasal dari Gunungkidul, yang melakukan latihan ditempat ini. Organisasi panjat tebing Indonesia menyediakan sekitar 40 jalur pemanjatan dari semua tingkat kesulitan.
The steep limestone slopes in West Siung are used for rock climbing activities. The female rock climbing athlete who won the competition at the ASEAN level came from Gunungkidul, who did the training at this place. Indonesian rock climbing organizations provide around 40 climbing routes of all levels of difficulty.
